Jefferson County hosts telephone town hall on $16.1M in planned budget cuts

Jefferson County needs to cut $16.1 million from its 2020 budget and it's holding a telephone town hall on Wednesday to talk to residents.

"We're eager to hear from community members about their ideas, about their priorities, and especially, we want to hear their questions," said JeffCo Commissioner Lesley Dahlkemper.

Despite Jefferson County's increase in population and property taxes, TABOR, the Tax Payer Bill of Rights, limits how much revenue the county can keep, despite the increased demand for services and programs.

To cut $16.1 million, the county is requiring seven percent budget reductions for 2020 across all offices, departments and divisions whose budgets are impacted by the General Fund.

For Wednesday's telephone town hall, the county plans to call 100,000 households. You can pre-register to participate in the telephone town halls by texting the code JEFFCO to 828282 or you can go online to sign up and listen to the meeting live. If you don't receive a call or pre-register, during the meeting, you can call 877-229-8493 and enter 110646 to join the meeting.

Jefferson County also invites residents to review its spending on its financial transparency website.
