CONEJOS COUNTY, Colo. — An investigation is underway after human remains were found in Conejos County.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said the remains were found on two separate Conejos County properties. The sites are close to each other near the town of Las Sauces — also written as La Sauses, Lasauses, Los Sauces and Los Sauses— in the county. The small town sits west of the Rio Grande and south of Alamosa and Blanca.
The property owners were not living at the locations at the time.
The remains were recovered and are being analyzed and identified, CBI said. It's not clear if they belong to the same person or different people.
A tip line has been set up to gather information related to the case. Anybody with information is asked to call 719-270-0210.
The following law enforcement agencies are assisting in this investigation:
- Conejos County Sheriff’s Office
- Saguache County Sheriff’s Office
- Alamosa Police Department
- Monte Vista Police Department
- Colorado Bureau of Investigation
CBI will release more information at a 10 a.m. news conference Wednesday.
CBI said this case does not appear to be connected to the missing persons case of Suzanne Morphew, 49, who went missing out of Chaffee County on Mother's Day. However, "all possibilities are being considered," CBI said.
