DENVER — More than five months after Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed new rules for Colorado oil and gas drilling, the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) is still working on implementing the new rules.

The rules spelled out in Senate Bill 181 required the COGCC to give local governments more control over oil and gas drilling, and they call on the COGCC to make health and safety a priority when approving new permits.

During its monthly meeting in September, the COGCC will look at how to change its mission along with how to handle siting issues, how to change flowline rules and cumulative impacts on public health, the environment and wildlife.

The public is invited to weigh on these issues through the COGCC's public comment portal.

The website says, "COGCC staff will review all comments submitted and they will be taken into consideration while developing staff’s recommendations during rulemaking. The public comments will be also available for COGCC’s Commissioners to review as well as to the public."
