‘Holy Grail' of baseball cards to display at History Colorado Center for 3 days in July

Posted

DENVER – Calling all baseball card enthusiasts: One of the most valuable cards in existence will be in Denver for three days in July.

A gem mint PSA 10 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, one of only three such top-rated cards in the world, will be on display at the History Colorado Center from July 16 through July 18 as part of the “Play Ball!” exhibit.

Of the three PSA 10-rated Mickey Mantle cards, the one going on display in Denver is the only “perfect 10,” according to museum officials, making it a “Holy Grail” among enthusiasts.

The last time this rare card went on public display was more than 20 years ago.

To protect the card from the elements and potential thieves, it will be transported to the museum in an armored vehicle and then put on display in a temperature- and humidity-controlled case with UV protection.

The 1952 Mickey Mantle card is part of the personal collection of Marshall Fogel, who will give two lectures on the first day of the card’s showing, July 16. The lectures will require a separate ticket.

Tickets for the baseball card viewing are available now at historycolorado.org or by calling 303-866-2435. Tickets are $14 for adults and kids ages 5 to 15 can get in for free if they wear a baseball jersey. Kids 4 and under and members of History Colorado can get in for free.
