PARK COUNTY, Colo. — Highway 285 is currently closed north and south of Fairplay due to high winds and low, if any, visibility in the area.

At 4:40 a.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation announced that Highway 285 is closed between just north of Kenosha Pass south to US 24/Antero Junction.

The Colorado State Patrol in Florence said wind gusts in the areas maxing out at 70 mph have blown over at least two semi trucks. CSP said the drivers "disregarded the high wind advisory." Injuries are unknown.

Before sunrise, there was zero visibility in some areas around Fairplay due to lots of blowing and drifting snow, CSP said.

As of 9 a.m., CSP said CDOT was working to remove 3-foot snow drifts from the highway south of Fairplay.

Conditions are expected to improve by late morning or early afternoon.
