CHADRON, Neb. (AP) — Chadron State track athletes have won top honors in the World Championship Buffalo Chip Throw contest during the 42nd annual Fur Trade Days celebration in Chadron.

Twenty-two-year-old Gregg Peterson, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, tossed a piece of dried bison dung 177 feet on Saturday to win the men's 18-and-older division.

His toss fell far short of the men's record of 204 feet set by Kail Bowman in 1990. Peterson is a decathlete for Chadron State.

Twenty-one-year-old Ashton Hallsted, from Casper, Wyoming, had a toss of 105 feet, 7 inches to win the women's 18-and-older division. She competes in the throwing events for Chadron State.
