Colorado’s trails give us a lot to love, whether by foot, horse or bike. And on Saturday, you can give some love back.
Saturday marks the 27th National Trails Day, which was created by the American Hiking Society to clean and protect trails across the country. This year, the organization is trying to set a record for the most people improving trails on a single day.
In Colorado, residents can attend any of the 29 scheduled events in the following locations:
· Estes Park
· Castle Rock
· Snowmass Village
· Loveland
· Golden
· Bellvue
· Colorado Springs
· Steamboat Springs
· Fruita
· Rifle
· Walsenburg
· Calhan
· Fort Collins
· Fairplay
· Divide
· Durango
· Superior
· Arvada
· Broomfield

The American Hiking Society created National Trails Day in an effort to encourage people to protect the hiking experience, preserve natural areas, ensure funding for trails and volunteer to give back.
Executive Director of American Hiking Society Kate Van Waes said outdoor lovers have faced several wake-up calls recently, from drastic cuts to national monuments, trash pileups during the government shutdown and more.
“American Hiking Society is challenging trail lovers across the country to set a trail service world record,” she said. “Anyone can pledge to leave a trail better than they found it on National Trails Day by joining an organized trail service project or even just by bringing along a trash bag.”
