LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A 14-year-old Lakewood girl has gone missing after leaving home to ride her skateboard.
Autumn Vargas disappeared Sunday.
“She asked to go to the skatepark on her skateboard," said Vargas's mother, Chandra Crittenden. "I told her to take her littler sister. Her little sister didn’t want to go, so she just wanted to ride around the block. I said, 'That’s fine.'"
Vargas never returned home.
Her mother said she was wearing a blue Nirvana T-shirt and blue shorts. She didn't take any belongings with her — not even her cell phone.
“I know with today’s technology kids don’t really memorize cell phones anymore. I really believe she is with strangers and she has no resource except a skateboard,” Crittenden said.
On Wednesday night, a group of over 50 friends, family and concerned community members held a vigil to pray for the teen's safe return.
Lakewood police are treating her disappearance as a runaway case and are following up on tips.
Anyone who has seen her should contact police immediately at 303-987-7111.
"Please bring her home. Autumn, we love you so much we are so proud of everything you have accomplished and done in your life, baby,” Crittenden said.
