WELD COUNTY, Colo. – A Greeley police officer shot at a man who was reportedly holding a road flare near a methanol tank at Missile Site Park in Weld County on Saturday morning, officials said.
The man was taken into custody and taken to a hospital. Police were not releasing his name or condition Saturday afternoon.
Officers had responded about 8:51 a.m. to a call about a suspicious person at the park, which is in an unincorporated area of Weld County, west of Greeley.
The man refused to comply with officers, who then fired less-lethal rounds at him, but the rounds were ineffective, according to a news release from the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team, which is handling the investigation. An officer then fired his gun at the man. Authorities did not say whether the man was struck by the gunfire.
