The National Weather Service in Boulder said it had received reports of funnel clouds in the area. Landspout tornadoes – which are narrow and rope-like, similar to the funnel clouds spotted Sunday – are usually not a result of a wall clouds, so they're more difficult to detect on radar, the Weather Service tweeted.
The thunderstorms in Weld County were moving southeast, while the Denver metro was seeing scattered showers. The showers and storms were expected to keep developing Sunday afternoon, before things dry up heading into the new week.
