Fruitcakes will fly again in downtown Manitou Springs for 25th Annual Great Fruitcake Toss

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. — Looking for some family fun this weekend? On Saturday, Jan. 23, the 25th annual Great Fruitcake Toss returns to Manitou Springs.

This year, the event will take place at Manitou Springs' Memorial Park, located at 502 Manitou Ave., from 1 to 3 p.m.

Fruitcakes cost $5 each and a limited amount is available. You're welcome to bring your own as well, though it must weigh one pound, be rectangular and contain fruits, nuts and flour.

Participants are asked to bring their own non-perishable food items to be donated to Manitou Springs Community Pantry.

Each canned item earns the donor one event ticket and each fruitcake throw costs five tickets. Additional throws cost $1 each.

There are various different old-fashioned competitions for the Great Fruitcake Toss:

  • Hand toss distance
  • Accuracy
  • Speed
  • Best balance
