Fort Lupton Police arrest suspect in motel murder

FORT LUPTON, Colo. — Fort Lupton Police took a man wanted in connection for a murder at the K C Motel into custody Friday.

Police identified Preston Cordova, 21, as a person of interest and later named him a suspect and issued a warrant for murder. With the assistance of the Greeley Police Department, Fort Lupton officers took Cordova into custody Friday.

The murder happened at the K C Motel 1st Street on Dec. 5. Officers responded to a call for a shooting around 3 p.m. and found the victim, Joshua Schuler, 36, in the parking lot. He died from his injuries at the hospital.

Schuler, who had addresses in Colorado and Nebraska, was a guest at the motel, according to a release from the Weld County Coroner. They have not released a final manner and cause of death, pending autopsy and laboratory reports.

Sierra Maez, 26, who was also identified as a person of interest, has been located as well, according to police.
