One person hospitalized as apartment complex burns in Castle Rock

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. – One person was hospitalized with unknown injuries after an apartment complex fire Monday evening.

Earlier in the evening, South Metro Fire and Rescue reported one person was treated for smoke inhalation, and a firefighter was checked out at the scene. The person who suffered from smoke inhalation was hospitalized.

The fire started shortly after 6 p.m. Monday at the Castle Rock Apartments complex on Castlegate Drive near the Factory Shops in Castle Rock.

The fire was contained by 7:30 p.m., and crews from Castle Rock and South Metro Fire and Rescue were able to extinguish it by shortly after 9 p.m.

Twenty people were displaced by the fire, and the Red Cross is responding to help those in need. Two apartments were completely destroyed and between six and eight others suffered damage. An additional 12 units were without power Monday night, South Metro Fire said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
