ABC’s hit show, The Bachelor, will see its final rose ceremony in just a few weeks. The guilty pleasure reality TV program has become an economic engine of its own.
The ViewHouse in downtown Denver is cashing in on the show’s renewed success with watch parties every Monday night.
There’s also a Fantasy Bachelor league. It operates much like Fantasy Football.
“It’s just something fun,” said league commissioner Mica Gornail. “It’s completely different.”
Speaking to Denver7 via Skype from Chicago, Gornail explains how it works.
“If you pick a girl who might say the word, 'like' a lot, or gets the rose, or goes on a picnic date or in a helicopter - that girl's going to get you a lot of points," said Gornail.
Participants draft five girls at the beginning of each season. Gornail didn't watch the show for years, but couldn't handle all her office mates talking about it on Tuesday mornings.
"I just thought if you can't beat 'em, join them," Gornail said.
The buy-in is $25 a season, and the payout is about $1,000 for the winner, according to Gornail.
For fans, it's too late to get in on this season of Fantasy Bachelor, but the new season of the Bachelorette is coming up. You can e-mail Gornail at mica@groupon.comfor more information on how to get involved.
