If you've ever dreamed of living in the Colorado mountains, this is a house you have to see.
Dick Rothkopf, the former toy company executive whose company created Thomas the Train, is selling his Tuscan estate between Vail and Beaver Creek.
"It's time for us to build a new home closer to our children and grandchildren," Rothkopf wrote about leaving the home he calls Il Podere or family homestead.
The home, built in 2008, sits on 142 acres on its own mountain top.
"It's so high up," said real estate agent Malia Cox Nobrega. "There are 360-degree views."
Nobrega said people pay a fortune in Vail to have a view of one mountain, but this home has views of all the iconic mountains around Vail including New York Mountain, the Sawatch and Gore Mountain ranges, Holy Cross, Castle Peak and the Game Creek Bowl, one of the back bowls at Vail.
Nobrega says the home is somewhat protected, so it's not windy.
"It's extremely private and secluded, but still close to restaurants and skiing," Nobrega explained.
Rothkopf said the property was slated to be developed into 44 homes, but when the developer ran into trouble getting access, Rothkopf bought the land. It took two years, 27 drafts and a lot of money, but Rothkopf got a road to his future home site.
It took eight years from buying the property to finishing the estate. The main house features seven bedrooms, 10 bathrooms and multiple gathering rooms.
There is extensive stone work throughout the home.
The kitchen is a cook's dream with multiple stoves and ovens and plenty of workspace.
Even the office has lots of features including the ceiling beams, a fireplace and built-in bookcases and shelving.
The house is also about its special touches.
There's the temperature- and humidity-controlled wine cellar with room for about 1,200 bottles.
The billiards room with a secret button that opens to a man cave complete with poker/cigar room and special air handling system to remove smoke from the room, Nobrega said.
The exercise and spa area with cardio machines, free weights, massage and yoga studio and seven-person, wood-lined sauna.
Prefer something that's less work? Enjoy a movie in the movie theater with reclinable seats.
Or sit by the pool where you can, again, enjoy those incredible views.
The home has a tennis court, basketball court, horse stalls, and 12 miles of private hiking and ATV trails with benches made of trees and branches, Nobrega said.
In addition to the home, there's a guest wing with separate kitchen and living room, a caretaker's house and a barn with a six-bed bunk house.
The listing price is $21,850,000.
