Exploring the hidden gem of Burlington in eastern Colorado

There is an advertisement on the side of a 16th Street Mall bus in downtown Denver that reads, "Outlaws welcome. Old Town Museum Burlington."

For many, Burlington is just another town on a map, just west of the Kansas state line. But it turns out, the town's museum is one special place.

The Old Town Museum sits on 6.5 acres and features 21 historic buildings to tour and more than 50,000 artifacts. It pays homage to the turn of the century farmers and ranchers who made Colorado the agricultural state that it is today.

"Most people are absolutely astounded," said former Mayor of Burlington and long-time resident Rol Hudler. "They have no idea that there are so many things to see. We constructed this thing originally with one purpose, and that was to our preserve history. It got so popular that people were pulling off the interstate and coming over to see what was going on."

You can watch Can Can shows and gunfights at high noon through Labor Day. The museum is also hosting wild west dinner theater shows on June 28, June 29 and Aug. 17.
