ERIE, Colo. — An animal sanctuary in Erie is straying from the normal Thanksgiving tradition. Instead of eating turkeys, you can enjoy a plant-based dinner alongside them.

Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary, which provides a refuge for abused and neglected farm animals, said everybody is welcome to their potluck on Thanksgiving Day. Attendees are only asked to bring a plant-based dish, meaning no animal products, which includes meat, dairy, eggs and honey. The sanctuary is a dry campus, so alcohol is not permitted.

Never met a turkey before? The sanctuary posted that this event is the perfect time to learn more about the “inquisitive and sweet nature of these beautiful birds.” Guests will have the chance to meet the turkeys — which are named Chai, Matcha, Darjeeling, Oolong, Chamomile and Walter — at the Thanksgiving dinner.

Attendees can also sponsor the turkeys, which helps staff care for the animals. Guests can donate at the event or when they reserve their spot ahead of time.

Admission is free, but donations are welcome. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page here.
