DENVER — If you’re new to Denver and you decorated your home for the holiday season, don’t be tempted to take those lights down just yet.
It’s a Denver tradition to keep Christmas lights up through the National Western Stock Show, which takes place every January.
This year’s show begins on Jan. 12 and runs through Jan. 27.
The tradition of keeping lights up through the end of the Stock Show goes back decades — an article in the Steamboat Pilot from 1955 cites a then 12-year-old practice of keeping the lights on at the City and County building so Stock Show visitors could take in the festive display.
The Stock Show remains a big tourist draw today and so the tradition of welcoming visitors with holiday cheer well into the new year continues.
