EVERGREEN, Colo. — Lariat Lodge in Evergreen opened several years ago, and when it did, it was unique because it allowed people to bring their pets and enjoy the patio area.

Lauren Stieren was born and raised in Evergreen and has been a server at the brewpub for years. She said patrons used to fill the outside eating area with their dogs.

"I have regulars, as a server would, but I also have regular dogs that I recognize before I see the people. I know all of them by name, and I'm always happy to see them, and they're always happy to see me," Stieren said.

The outdoor seating area where Lariat Lodge had allowed customers to bring their pets is now under review by the Jefferson County Planning and Zoning after the business was notified of zoning violations.

The violations have nothing to do with the pub's dog-friendly policies, the owner said. But while the business files a new rezoning application to incorporate the outdoor area, the area is off-limits to customers and their dogs.

Stieren said not too long ago an off-leash dog park was closed down, and now after this, people have fewer places in Evergreen to take their best friend.

"It seems like the availability for dog-friendly areas is dwindling here," she said. "It just doesn't fit with this community. This was one of a kind."

The entire rezoning process could take more than a year, but they're hopeful they'll be able to work with the county to resolve the issue, beginning with a county meeting this coming week.

People have also been signing a petition letting the county know how much they've enjoyed Lariat Lodge and it's outdoor pet area.
