DENVER -- Books, ice cream and a large check presentation more were on tap as Denver7’s Lisa Hidalgo hosted the launch event for the Second Annual Colorado Book Festival.

The Colorado Authors’ League and Denver Public Library’s will be hosting the festival in March, but fans gathered at the library Monday night to listen to “dictionary czar” Orin Hargraves talk about how words like “selfie” get added to dictionary.  After his talk, the audience was offered the chance to create a new word to name a new flavor of ice cream created by Bonnie Brae Ice Cream especially for the occasion.

Another surprise during the night came when Lisa presented the Colorado Book Festival with a $5,000 check from the Scripps Howard Foundation.  The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the E.W. Scripps Company which owns Denver7.

Coming to the Denver Public Library in March, the Colorado Book Festival will showcase writing and books by Colorado authors along with programs about reading, literacy and the writing process. The festival will give people the chance to talk with authors, attend reading and writing workshops, and take part in panel discussions.

The Colorado Book Festival is free, but those wanting to attend are asked to register online in advance.
