DENVER -- Pushback against a new site didn't stop Denver City Council from giving the OK for a tiny home village to move to the Globeville neighborhood.

The Beloved Community Village is currently located near 38th and Blake, but impending development is forcing it to find a new home. After months of debate surrounding the future location, the village will begin moving on May 13.

The new site at 4400 Pearl Street will allow the community to expand from 11 tiny homes up to 20. A bathroom facility with plumbing and a common-area kitchen will also be added.

"We also put in provisions in the lease to hold the village accountable to certain standards that had come up as being important to the neighborhood and this was maintaining the property, removing the snow," said Laura Swartz, a spokesperson for Community Planning and Development.

Under the current agreement, the village could remain at the site for up to three years. There will be an option to renew the lease on an annual basis.

The group behind the project, Colorado Village Collaborative, has already raised $150,000 in hopes of adding a second tiny home community. Organizers know it won't be easy finding a location, especially after a challenging search to move the existing village. They will begin pushing to change current zoning code in hopes of opening up more potential locations.

"This just isn’t the responsibility for Globeville and District 9 to take on, this is something we want to see expand across the city," said Cole Chandler with the Colorado Village Collaborative.
