DENVER -- Marybeth Haugen and her husband have lived in the Washington Park neighborhood for about two decades. She says they like the community because it is safe and has a sense of safety for their children.

"Neighbors know each other, they watch out for each other, it's friendly," Haugen said.

She says her family decided to install a Ring security camera in front of their home to be aware of any suspicious activity.

And thanks to the Denver Police Department's new platform in partnership with Ring, Haugen and many others across the city will now be able to upload any video or pictures of what she sees happening in her neighborhood.

"Personally I love it, I think the more that we can work together as a community and partner with law enforcement to make their jobs easier, I'm all for it." Haugen said.

Commander with Denver Police, Rick Kyle, says through the Neighbors app by Ring, DPD officers will go through the content that is uploaded by neighbors.

"It's kind of like a virtual neighborhood watch that allows us to communicate with the public, the public communicate with each other about what's going on in their neighborhood safety-wise," Kyle said.

Police may also contact people if a crime occurred in a specific area to see if they have video.

The app is free for anyone to download and DPD says anyone can use it, not just the people who have surveillance cameras installed in their homes.
