DENVER – With its wealth of professional sports teams, Denver ranks among the best cities in the country for sports fans.

A new ranking from WalletHub puts the Mile High City at 12th place among large cities (those with populations higher than 300,000).

WalletHub compiled its list by combining rankings from other sports rankings it released earlier this year for football, basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer, with football getting the most weight.

On those lists, Denver was ranked 16th for football fans, 29th for basketball, 24th for baseball, 19th for hockey and 11th for soccer.

Overall, WalletHub found Boston to be the best large city for sports fans while Riverside, Calif. was the worst.

Here are the top major sports cities, according to WalletHub:

1.    Boston, MA
2.    New York, NY
3.    Los Angeles, CA
4.    Pittsburgh, PA
5.    Chicago, IL
6.    Philadelphia, PA
7.    Detroit, MI
8.    Washington, DC
9.    Dallas, TX
10.    Atlanta, GA

Colorado Springs also made the list of major cities, coming in at number 44. Boulder and Fort Collins were ranked 51st and 63rd, respectively, among midsize cities and Greeley and Grand Junction were ranked 56th and 218th among small cities, respectively.
