DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. – A Denver man has been arrested for investigation on vehicular homicide and other charges in connection to a deadly crash that happened Saturday evening.
Jesus Angel Estrada-Rivera, 19, was booked for investigation on charges of vehicular homicide, driving while license under restraint and driving without proof of insurance.
The crash happened around 7:20 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Powhaton Road and Sampson Gulch Way, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.
Several people called 911 to report that a truck had hit an SUV, trapping one person in the vehicle. Aurora officers had taken Estrada-Rivera into custody by the time that Douglas County deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver of the SUV died after being transported to an area hospital. The county coroner has yet to positively identify the driver.
The sheriff’s office said its traffic crash team, which is investigating the crash, believe that Estrada-Rivera may have been driving too fast before the crash.
He is being held on a $50,000 bond at the Douglas County Detention Facility.
