DENVER — A Denver couple is furious with the city for not cleaning up human waste left in an alley.
They found diarrhea on their garage which is in an alley frequented by transients. The culprit even left behind a pile of used toilet paper.
They called 311 and said someone told them a clean-up crew would be on the way. But were later told the homeowner is responsible.
"My wife's nine months pregnant, and it's definitely a situation we don't want to have to clean up ourselves," Gavin Chapman said. “We are taxpayers. We work hard, and we want the city’s support in dealing with this problem.”
A similar situation has been happening in other Denver neighborhoods. Homeowners near 27th and Arapahoe asked for porta potties to reduce the mess left by transients. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said that would make the situation worse.
The Chapmans say the city's refusal to clean up the mess solidified their "no" vote on Initiative 300.
