Denver among top 10 moving destinations for millennials (but they aren't planning to stay)

Posted

DENVER – If you’re tired of all the young people moving to Denver in recent years, here’s some good news: Many of them likely aren’t planning to stick around.

Moving company Mayflower released its annual “mover insights” survey and it shows that Denver was the eighth most popular moving destinations for millennials last year. Mayflower defined millennials as people between the ages of 18 and 35.

The survey also found that 41 percent of movers in that age group are what the company refers to as “vacation movers,” meaning they move to a new city without the intention of living there permanently. Additionally, Mayflower found that 74 percent of millennial-aged movers last year packed up and moved to a new city with a set timeline in mind.

So, why move if they don’t plan to stay? Mayflower says 40 percent of millennials move for work, while 30 percent are looking for a new experience or lifestyle and 26 percent are looking for a new job.

Here are Mayflower’s top 10 moving destinations for millennials:

1. San Francisco, CA
2. Los Angeles, CA
3. Washington, DC
4. Seattle, WA
5. Chicago, IL
6. New York, NY
7. Dallas, TX
8. Denver, CO
9. Houston, TX
10. Atlanta, GA
