DENVER -- A 13-year-old in Denver has a message for the 2020 presidential candidates. She wants them to hold an entire debate, or forum, on environmental issues.

"When you have a debate solely around environment issues like climate change, they can't give generic answers issue like they normally do, to get out of saying anything," Haven Coleman told Denver7. "They have to actually think about it and prepare themselves for it."

Haven and other members of her group, Youth Climate Strike U.S., have started a petition drive on MoveOn.org that reads, "We want all the candidates to commit to participating in a debate or forum on environmental issues and policies so we can hear detailed ideas and plans."

"It's a great way for us as citizens to know who we should be voting for and why," Coleman said.

The petition garnered more than 30,000 signatures in the first four days online. Organizers said they plan to deliver the petition to the 2020 Candidates and the Democratic National Committee.

"I did not cause this this, my generation did not cause this," Coleman said about climate change. "We're fighting adults to do something."
