SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. – A deadly crash involving a semi-truck and another vehicle shut down U.S. Highway 6 near Keystone and Arapahoe Basin Ski Area Thursday morning.

The crash happened just before 8:30 a.m. and involved a semi-truck that was carrying car batteries and another vehicle, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said.

Crews were working to stabilize the truck around 10 a.m. The highway was closed in both directions between Keystone and Loveland Ski Area, according to CDOT and CSP, but reopened shortly before noon Thursday.

All hazmat trucks – which typically have to use Loveland Pass – are being routed through the Eisenhower Tunnel and will run at the top of each hour, or as traffic allows.

Both CDOT and CSP said an extended closure should be expected. Click here for the latest traffic conditions in the area.
