DENVER — The Denver Police Department is investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian and multiple motorists on I-25 Wednesday evening.

The crash happened on northbound I-25 near the Downing Street exit. One man was pronounced dead, according to the department.

Denver police said the victim was struck by multiple vehicles. Initially, police said one of those vehicles did not stay on scene, but on Thursday, the department said they are no longer seeking another vehicle.

Police said they believe the deceased person opened the car door and "let himself out while traveling at a high rate of speed."

Traffic on I-25 was diverted for several hours, but the interstate has since reopened. An investigation is underway.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
