LITTLETON, Colo. – A young black bear was spotted in the Littleton area on Friday, according to residents and Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

The CPW's Northeast Region office tweeted out a couple photos of the yearling, roaming around town. One resident reported seeing the bear near Harlow Park and another sighting was reported in the Columbine Valley.

As their tweet warned, the bear might look cute, but residents should still keep their distance. CPW officers were in the area Friday night, monitoring for the bear, which likely found a hiding spot.

As a general reminder, the bears out of hibernation in Colorado, so sightings won't be unusual. Earlier this month, a bear broke into a car in Estes Park, got trapped for seven hours and destroyed nearly everything inside.

Here are a few things to know about how to stay safe with bears out and about, especially in the mountain areas.
