AURORA, Colo. — Police say a suspected drunk driver is in custody following a high-speed crash that ripped his car in half and prompted a closure of Interstate 225 in Aurora early Monday.
Aurora police said they responded to the northbound lanes of I-225 near Alameda Avenue at about 2 a.m. and found the car in two pieces.
The driver had been ejected from the car and survived, fleeing the scene on foot, police said. The man was caught a short while later.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash and there were no other reports of injuries.
The interstate reopened shortly before 5 a.m.
