With Thanksgiving right around the corner, millions of Americans are already thinking about what gifts they'll buy for their loved ones for the holidays. And no matter if you purchase something to ship to your home or send it directly to somebody, doorbell cameras can help keep an eye on a package outside the front door if you're not home.

According to data insights firm Strategy Analytics, doorbell camera purchases will play a big part in the almost $8 billion expected to be spent by consumers on smart home camera systems in the U.S. this year.

Convenience and affordability seem to be the top reasons for the increased popularity in doorbell cameras.

The Nest Hello Video Doorbell and the Ring Video Doorbell made the list.

"You can't put a price on safety and security of your home," said Douglas County resident Loni Hale, who owns a Ring doorbell camera. "It's easy to use."

According to Consumer Reports, the basic Ring Video Doorbell system is more affordable than some doorbell cameras, but lacks in video quality.

The basic Nest Hello Video Doorbell is on the more expensive side, but Consumer Reports gives it high scores for video quality.

Other consumers are going beyond the singular doorbell camera.

"I get a 24/7 live feed," said Castle Rock resident Chris Broesel, who owns a Nest Cam Indoor. "I have cameras in several rooms of my home."

Consumer Reports looked at several factors when choosing best doorbell cameras for 2019. Price and quality always seemed to be important factors, though.

According to Strategy Analytics, "the global smart home camera market will top $7.9 billion in 2019, and surge more than 60% to nearly $13 billion in 2023."
