After reviewing data on 420,000 vehicles, spanning the 2000 to 2019 model years, Consumer Reports is predicting which vehicles will be the most and least reliable options for the 2020 model year.

Consumer Reports advises consumers to consider models that are a few years into their redesign, as opposed to buying the newest version of a vehicle. The publication says the cars with the highest reliability ratings were the least likely to have problems with brakes, transmission, four-wheel drive systems and other mechanical issues.

The 10 most reliable vehicles for 2020 are:

  • Mazda MX-5 Miata
  • Toyota Prius Prime
  • Toyota Prius
  • Lexus GX
  • Hyundai Kona
  • Mazda CX-3
  • Lexus NX
  • Toyota 4Runner
  • Mazda CX-9
  • Lexus GS

Consumer Reports says the 10 vehicles with the lowest reliability ratings are:

  • Chevrolet Colorado
  • Chevrolet Camaro
  • Jeep Wrangler
  • Alfa Romeo Giulia
  • Volkswagen Atlas
  • Volkswagen Tiguan
  • Acura MDX
  • Tesla Model X
  • Chrysler Pacifica
  • Chevrolet Traverse
