Fire near Garden of the Gods Thursday determined to be arson, suspect in custody

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says 48-year-old Adam Gilmour has been charged with fourth-degree arson related to a fire near Garden of the Gods.

Police say the person who called emergency crews about the fire indicated they may have saw a person starting the fire and leaving the area. Further investigation identified a man to be responsible. Gilmour was located nearby and taken into custody without incident.

Update as of 4:40 p.m.

CSFD says the fire was around 20 acres, and is fully contained. Approximately 40 CSFD personnel were sent to the fire Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from damaging three homes.

30th St. between Garden of the Gods Rd and Mesa Rd. will remain closed until further notice. However, Garden of the Gods Park was not damaged, but Palmer Mesa Trail is closed at Sinton.

CSFD thanks the community for the influx of phone calls they received for this fire.

A grass fire burning near Garden of the Gods Thursday afternoon is now contained, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD).

CSFD says that crews are "getting a good knock down" on the fire, but people should continue to avoid the area.

Road closures:

  • Southbound 30th Street is closed at Garden of the Gods Road
  • Northbound 30th St is closed at Mesa Rd

CSFD is asking for people to avoid the area.
