DENVER -- Several local events are scheduled this weekend to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks which killed 2,977 people in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C in 2001.
Aurora
The Aurora Police and Fire Departments and Military Honor Guard will hold a ceremony noon Saturday at the Colorado Freedom Memorial located at 756 Telluride Street.
From 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. the public will be allowed to view and photograph steel pieces from the World Trade Center Twin Tower.
Broomfield
North Metro Fire Rescue District, the Broomfield Police Department and the City and County of Broomfield will hold a memorial ceremony at 8 a.m. Sunday in the Amphitheater in Community Park.
A man who lost his brother in the attacks and another man who narrowly missed being in the attack on the World Trade Center will speak at the event.
Brighton
The community is invited to City Hall on Sunday at 8.am. to remember the lives lost in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Following a ceremony, firefighters and police officers will climb the stairs in City Hall to honor the New York firefighters who died in the attacks.
Denver
Gov. John Hickenlooper and Mayor Michael B. Hancock will host Colorado Remembers 9/11 at 1 p.m. Sunday in Civic Center Park.
A free tribute concert featuring John Fogerty and Big Head Todd & The Monsters will follow a ceremony which includes a special flyover, 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps.
9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
Sunday morning 343 Colorado firefighters will climb the equivalent of 110 stories in honor of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives in the attacks.
Participants must be firefighters. The event begins at 9 a.m. in the CenturyLink building located at 1801 California St.
Morrison
Firefighters and members of the community will come together to climb the stairs at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Sunday morning.
The route is designed to equal 110 stories which is the height of the World Trade Center's Twin Towers.
The pre-climb ceremony begins at 8:46 a.m. The climb begins at 9:02 following a moment of silence and a performance of Amazing Grace.
Fort Collins
Poudre Fire Authority's Station 3 will host an event Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
During that time, people may view a beam that was once part of the World Trade Center Towers.
At 3 p.m., the Honor Guard will open a ceremony honoring those who died.
The station is located off of College Avenue, at 2000 Mathews St., in Fort Collins.
Greeley
University of Northern Colorado students and alumni, the First Congregational Church of Greeley choir, Greeley Central and Loveland High School choirs will host a memorial concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium at Greeley Central High School, 1515 14th Ave. in Greeley.
A suggested donation for the event is $10.
Voices of September 11th is hosting the concert. The organization addresses the long-term needs of those impacted by the attacks and helping communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from other acts of mass violence.
Highlands Ranch
Members of the Young Americans for Freedom will set up 2,977 American Flags at Highlands Ranch High School Saturday afternoon.
The flags will be on display through Monday afternoon.
