HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — A high school student in Highlands Ranch was struck by a vehicle while biking to school and had his hands pinned under a tire before emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
Eric Hurst with South Metro Fire said firefighters were called out to Monarch Boulevard and McArthur Ranch Road after receiving a report that a child was struck by a vehicle around 7:15 a.m. Monday.
When they arrived on scene, they found that the boy's hands were stuck under the vehicle's tires. The firefighters were able to free him, Hurst said.
The child that was hit and trapped for a short time under the tire is at the hospital. Lanes are reopening at the intersection of McArthur Ranch & Quebec.

He was transported to a hospital.
Lauren LeKander, public information officer with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, said the boy was conscious and breathing when he was taken to the hospital.
She said he sustained numerous serious injuries, but is expected to recover.
The sheriff's office's traffic team talked with the driver, LeKander said. She said the driver was released from the scene and was not cited as of Monday morning.
The incident occurred near Rock Canyon High School and the school's principal, Andy Abner, confirmed the boy is a student at the high school. Abner said the student was riding his bike to school when he was struck by a vehicle.
