SILVER PLUME, Colo. — Starting Monday, Colorado Department of Transportation crews will begin replacing the sound wall along westbound Interstate 70 in Silver Plume.

This construction will force an eight-week closure of the on-ramp from Silver Plume to I-70, starting Thursday and lasting until Nov. 19. The ramp will reopen to traffic, with limited construction work through the winter, until March 31, 2020. The ramp will completely close again from April 1, 2020 to June 2020, according to CDOT.

CDOT will start preparing for that work on Monday.

This construction will replace the existing and deteriorating sound wall with new concrete and steel posts. This will improve safety, functionality, durability and aesthetics. CDOT will also upgrade storm drainage in that area.

The project’s price tag is $3.2 million. It’s expected to be completed by June 2020, according to CDOT.

Drivers who need to get from Silver Plume onto I-70 westbound can head west on Water Street/Silver Valley Road about five miles to the I-70 and Bakerville interchange. If you head this way, you may see minor delays while flaggers direct traffic during the drainage system construction.

Work hours are expected to run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
