DENVER — The state’s stay-at-home order ended last week, but many cities and counties around the state extended theirs until May 8.
On Monday, City of Denver officials announced the mayor doesn't plan on extending the stay-at-home order past Friday. How that reopening process will happen is expected to be address Tuesday afternoon in a news conference held by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock.
“Just day by day" — that’s how Andy Samaras has been dealing with the closure of his business, Concord Custom Shop and Tailors, in Cherry Creek.
Samaras is excited for the opportunity to return to work May 9 but when he does, precautions will be taken.
“We will try to keep only three or four people in the store at one time,” said Samaras.
Englewood business owner Laila Makari plans to also limit the amount of customers in her store, Best Wax and Lash.
“I will keep my clients 20, 30 minutes apart. My clients have to stay in the car until I call them,” Makari said of her plan to keep clients exposure to the novel coronavirus to a minimum.
Both Makari and Samaras will require their customers to wear masks. If they don’t have a mask, Samaras has them covered.
“We had our tailors make a couple hundred masks that we will give to our customers if they are not prepared,” Samaras said.
It’s unclear which businesses will be allowed to open right away, but when the time comes, Makari is ready to get back to doing what she loves.
“I’m never going to complain again about working hard and working too much. I’ll be happy to work hard again,” Makari said with a smile on her face.
