If you're looking for a beercation, it turns out you don't have to travel far, Colorado has four of the top 12 best beer destinations, according to Travelocity.
Because of the interest in beer tourism, Travelocity teamed up with the Brewers Association to create a Beer Tourism Index. It looked at brewery locations, the availability of rideshare services, accessibility via air and the average cost of lodging to create the list.
The top 6 large metro areas for beer tourism:
- Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, OR-WA
- Denver
- Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA
- Portland-South Portland-Biddeford, ME
- Colorado Springs
- Santa Rosa-Petaluma, CA
The top 6 small metro areas for beer tourism:
- Bend, OR
- Boulder
- Fort Collins-Loveland
- Corvallis, OR
- Missoula, MT
Colorado had more cities on the list than any other state. Likely because Colorado has about 300 licensed breweries, according to the Colorado Brewers Guild.
In a Travelocity survey of 1,003 people, more than three-quarters of those surveyed said they would like to go on a trip where they visited craft breweries and sampled local beer.
"Small and independent craft brewers are part of the DNA of their communities. They are becoming mainstay attractions for travelers," said Julia Herz, Craft Beer Program Director for the Brewers Association and Publisher of CraftBeer.com.
