Authorities release new details on wildfires still burning across western, central Colorado

Firefighters continue to work on wildfires in western and central Colorado. Fire authorities have released new estimates on how big these fires have grown (or how much they have decreased in size), if they are contained and more.

Here is the latest information on these wildfires:

 

Cabin Lake Fire

Location: 5.5 miles south of Buford, 7 miles northwest of Meadow Lake Campground

Start date: July 29

Acreage: 1,158

Percent contained: 72

Cause: Unknown

Other information: Authorities said this is the last update on this fire. County Road 17, also known as Buford/Newcastle Road, is expected to open Wednesday at 6 a.m. This fire is estimated to be contained by Aug. 31.

Sugarloaf Fire

Location: 13 miles of southwest of Fraser

Start date: June 28

Acreage: 1,280

Percent contained: 35

Cause: Lightning strike near the South Fork of Darling Creek, just south of Byers Peak Wilderness

Other information: This fire is burning in steep and rugged terrain, making access difficult for firefighters. Four structures have been evacuated.

Other information: This fire was discovered by a helicopter working over the Plateau Fire. It is estimated to be contained by Aug. 15.

Cause: Lightning or natural cause

Other information: This fire is estimated to be fully contained by Aug. 30. It is currently burning off the rim of the Plateau Canyon in steep, rugged terrain.
