WELD COUNTY, Colo. — The suspect who held a road flare near a methanol tank, prompting a Greeley officer to shoot at him, has been identified.

The incident occurred on Saturday at Missile Site Park in an unincorporated part of Weld County. Just before 9 a.m., Greeley Police Department officers and Weld County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call of a suspicious person at the park. Dispatch told the officers that a man had been spotted with a road flare near a methanol tank.

When the officers and deputies arrived, they gave verbal commands, but the man refused to comply. Officers fired less lethal rounds but they were ineffective. After that attempt, a Greeley officer shot at the man.
