AURORA, Colo. — Aurora's City Council is expected to hold a public hearing Monday night on a permit to drill multiple wells near a neighborhood in northeast Aurora.

The city administratively approved Jamaso's permit in December to drill 16 wells near Powhaton and 6th Avenue in Aurora. The drilling is planned for any area about 1,000 feet from a nearby mobile home park. A fence has already gone up in the area.

However, city council has the ability to "call up" any issue, which they voted eight to three to do so in this case. The "call up" means the council agreed to hold a public hearing on the issue.

Aurora City Councilwoman Nicole Johnston requested the "call up." She said almost 30 people had commented on the drilling application.

"I believe that people who commented, and that other people who are concerned, deserve a public hearing to voice their concerns and get more information," she said.

The Aurora City Council meeting is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
