GOLDEN, Colo. — One person is dead following a crash in Clear Creek Canyon Tuesday night.

The vehicle involved in the crash on US 6 mile marker 261 plunged upside down into Clear Creek, the Colorado State Patrol said in a tweet.

The driver was the only occupant in the single-vehicle crash, the CSP said.

The Golden Fire Department was called to the scene at about 7:45 p.m. The car went into the creek just east of Hwy 119, which is past Tunnel 3.

Conditions in the canyon are icy and snow-packed. However, it's too early to tell if the crash is weather-related.

Clear Creek Canyon, US 6 from Golden to Hwy 119, is currently closed as fire crews work to recover the car.
