Arapahoe HS, Regis Jesuit basketball teams put rivalry aside to raise mental health awareness

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – At Tuesday night’s girls basketball game between Arapahoe and Regis Jesuit high schools, the scores won’t count and the stats won’t be tallied.

The game is much bigger than that: They’re raising money for a cause.

The community has been reeling after two Arapahoe High students died by suicide within days of each other a few months ago. In response, the athletes are putting rivalries aside and coming together for a foundation game with proceeds going to fund awareness for mental health.

“It’s really just about our communities coming together for a really good cause and supporting one another during this hard time,” said Regis Jesuit senior Sidney Weigand.

The game is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Arapahoe High School, 2201 E. Dry Creek Rd. in Centennial.

The teams will be asking for a $3 donation at the door.
