PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. – Two bodies were recovered Friday afternoon at Lake Pueblo during a search for two missing people, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Authorities had been searching for the two people on the lake’s north side just west of the dam, CPW said. Callers had reported around 1:15 p.m. that two people had possibly drowned near the popular Sailboard Road access point.

CPW had originally said that the two people were boaters and later said that they were swimmers. Swimming is not allowed at Lake Pueblo. CPW said originally it was investigating the scene as involving possible drownings.

CPW’s Marine Evidence Recovery Team was brought in to assist, along with a remote-operated underwater vehicle.

Around 5 p.m. CPW said rangers had found what appeared to be a body using the sonar-equipped underwater vehicle around 4:15 p.m.. Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office divers recovered the body, and while doing so, the underwater drone found a second body, which was being recovered shortly after 5 p.m., CPW said.

The Pueblo County coroner will determine the people’s identities and causes of death.
