1 dies in single-vehicle crash in Aurora; police suspect speeding

AURORA, Colo. — Aurora police said they believe a man was speeding just prior to a crash that killed him on Thursday evening.

Around 9:45 p.m. Thursday, officers with the Aurora Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash on S. Peoria Street near S. Parker Road.

Based on an initial investigation, police sad they believe a Lexus SUV was traveling north on S. Parker Road and started to make a right onto northbound S. Peoria Street when the driver lost control. The vehicle struck a light pole.

The driver, who was the only person in the car, was transported to a hospital, where he died. He was only identified as an adult male, police said. His name has not been released.

Police said they spoke with witnesses and investigated the scene, and believe the driver was speeding.

Investigators with the police department will continue to investigate the crash to see if there were any other contributing factors.
