DELTA COUNTY, Colo. — One person was found dead after a small, possibly homemade plane crashed in Delta County Sunday.

On Sunday around 11:12 a.m., the Delta County Communications Center received several reports about a small plane that had crashed near Delta’s Blake Field airport while trying to land.

The Delta Police Department, Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Delta Fire Department, Delta County Ambulance District and CareFlight of the Rockies responded to the scene.

When they arrived, they found the wreckage of a small, single-occupant and possibly homemade plane on the east end of the runway on airport property, according to the sheriff’s office.

Emergency crews confirmed the pilot, who was the only person in the plane, had died. No details are available on the pilot’s identity.

Investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were expected to begin their investigation Monday, according to the sheriff’s office.
