DENVER — Police in Denver are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash after a driver at the Denver International Airport crashed on Level 6 and fell to Level 4 on the airport's western side.

Police announced they had responded to the crash shortly after 4 a.m.

Denver police said the car had accelerated and crashed through the barrier in the Level 6 passenger drop-off area on the west side of the airport. It then fell down to the Level 4 exit lanes and sidewalk.

The car was immediately engulfed in flames, police said.

The driver was declared deceased, police said.

DIA said all passenger traffic was directed to the east side of the airport while police investigated the crash. At 7:07 a.m., DIA said Level 5 and Level 6 on the west side and the west economy parking lot had reopened.

Passenger pickup on Leval 4 West will remain closed until Tuesday morning, officials said.

It's not clear how the crash occurred. No other information was available Monday morning.

The crash remains under investigation.
