FORT COLLINS – A man wanted for attempted murder is sitting in jail after the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force and other agencies arrested him Tuesday afternoon.

John Mercado, 23, is part of the Norteno Gang, U.S. Marshals said in a news release.

Mercado had been on the run since police say he shot a man in the chest during an attempted robbery Nov. 26, 2017 in Loveland near West 64th Street and North Garfield Avenue.

The Fort Collins Criminal Impact Unit and Loveland Police Department Street worked with U.S. Marshals deputies in making the arrest in Fort Collins near Matuka Court and Conifer Street.

Members of law enforcement surrounded Mercado’s house and ordered him to come outside.

“Due to the hard work from our Violent Offender Task Force in conjunction with local law enforcement, an extremely dangerous gang member, who was wanted for a violent crime is off the streets,” said Acting United States Marshal for the District of Colorado Mike Bunk.
