Mother injured in Westminster road rage shooting out of the hospital

WESTMINSTER, Colo. – A Colorado mother who was injured in a road rage shooting in Westminster in mid-June is back home from the hospital, according to a journal entry posted in the fundraising website CaringBridge.org.

“I am home! For 54 days, I was in a hospital being taken care of, getting stronger, healing, and doing what I was told (for the most part),” reads the Aug. 9 entry from Meghan Bigelow.

The woman went on to thank doctors, nurses, techs and staff at Denver Health as well as first responders and the hospital’s trauma team for “putting me back together.”

In the journal entry, Bigelow also thanked CNAs, therapists, wound care specialists and staff at Craig Rehabilitation Hospital who helped her heal following the June 14 parking lot shooting.

“As I transition to being home, I am getting used to my new normal. For now, I still get fatigued and need to rest. I am asking for continued privacy as I continue to recover. I am looking forward to communicating with this wonderful community and I will let you know when I am ready for visitors or even a trip out for coffee. Many have offered to help. At this point, I do not know what is needed. Names will be put onto lists, which I will use as a reference and call on.

“Lastly, I have to thank Vaughn. He has been so strong throughout the past 2 months. He has cried with me, celebrated with Asa and me on our successes, he has kept our home standing, and been a logistics master. Vaughn, I love you! You are the foundation of our family. Cooper, Asa, and I would be lost without you. I know Bubba sends rainbows to express how proud he is of you and how much he loves you!” the journal entry states.

Police say Jeremy Webster, 23, shot the 41-year-old mother and her two sons at a Westminster office park June 14 in a road rage incident. Vaughn Bigelow, 13, died in the shooting. A third son of Bigelow’s was not injured.

Webster remains in jail after an Adams County judge denied him bond in connection with the shooting.
